Precision isothermal closed-die forging of components to final dimensions
Precision-forged components are produced on tooling made up of several segments which are sunk virtually to the component’s final dimensions. They enable the design of complex shapes. In addition to exceptional service properties, they offer other qualities: internal soundness of the metal, excellent surface condition, savings in raw material, reduction or even elimination of machining, etc. In the isothermal closed-die forging of aluminium, the tooling is brought up to the same temperature as the component during the forging operation. Precise die temperature control makes it possible to:
- ensure dimensional consistency from one component to the next
- facilitate material flow in order to use closed dies for the production of components with extremely thin walls or without exposing grain at the parting line,
- refine the metallurgical structure and optimize the direction of grain flow in the most highly stressed zones.
Machining and finishing ”Ready to assemble“
Manoir Aerospace’s plants are dedicated to the production of ”ready to assemble“ components, carrying out: precision machining, surface treatment, shotblasting, painting, coating, assembly.
