3D printed castings

For 2 years now, Pitres has been driving trials to reduce cycle times and costs when casting small batch quantities.

According to the actual number of pieces that are needed, Pitres may use 3D printed resin patterns or 3D printed sand moulds. First trials have shown that the technique is now viable for items with simple kernels and standard sands.

Manoir Industries research is now centered on using more sophisticated sands and asserting the indirect benefits in the downstream operations. We also intend to work on ceramic kernels to overcome the present difficulties generated currently by sand kernels.

Pitres is confident in the outcome of these efforts and is now ready to propose customers that need less than a quantity of three of an item to design 3D sand moulds without making an actual pattern to speed up the process while keeping costs competitive.

Manoir Industries, an international metal processing casting and forging group, develops proprietary alloys and manufactures high performance metal components molded and forged for the petrochemical, nuclear, oil&gas, civil engineering, energy, defense and construction markets. Manoir’s solid technical expertise continues to drive its sustainable leading position offering innovative services to its customers worldwide.
