Argon Oxygen Decarburization- AOD converter, the mandatory road to the highest quality steel

The AOD is a process to purify the steel which is subject to 3 steps of refining: decarburization, reduction and desulphurization. This leads to eliminate the impurities from the melt.

In 2014 Manoir invested heavily in modernizing its AOD equipment, which has been originally installed in the 1970’s in order to be able to produce very high volumes (20T) of stainless steels to manufacture parts intended primarily for nuclear power plants.

This process is also key to achieve required mechanical and corrosion properties of duplex and super duplex alloys.

This equipment has also accompanied Manoir throughout its development to the petrochemical market in order to refine low-carbon refractory steels.
